MESSAGE

Peter was a fisherman and worked in the family business. He grew up fishing and learning how to make it big in business. Then, Jesus came along and gave Peter an offer. “Follow Me and I’ll make you a fisher of men.” In a moment, Peter decided to leave everything and follow Jesus and become the rock upon (which) Jesus built His church.

Countless people have been called to follow Jesus just like Peter. So how do you know it was God? Are you willing to follow Jesus in difficult times?

1. Walk with Jesus – When Peter heard Jesus challenge him, he left everything to follow Jesus. Sounds simple yet can be difficult. Peter wasn’t a minister of the Gospel yet. He had been training his whole life for something else. Yet, his calling and purpose were made clear by spending time with Jesus. The more he followed, the more the calling became clear. Is God calling you? Follow Him and He will direct your path. Spend time in His word!

2. Listen to His Voice – Listening seems to be a lost art in life today. Many people would rather talk and be heard than to listen. This is no different when it comes to our prayer life. Often we go to God with a list and do all the talking. We serve a God who wants to spend time with us and TALK to us. We need to be actively seeking His Voice. When we spend that time with Jesus and we allow Him to speak, we find His calling for our lives. If you are feeling called into ministry, an active prayer life is important to walking in the will of the One who has called you. Spend time praying in the Spirit and allowing the Holy Spirit to be your guide. The more you allow the Holy Spirit to move in your daily life, the more the Holy Spirit will be able to direct you along your journey.

3. Seek Godly Wisdom – God will also speak through spiritual leaders about the calling you have received. I encourage you to talk with your youth or senior pastor about this. Seek direction and wisdom from them. Submit to them and allow them to pour into your life. During that time, God can confirm the calling in your life and the direction He is leading you.

4. Follow the Peace

When you are spending time in prayer, there will be peace about the path that the Lord is calling you to follow. Trust the peace.
